Glass Etching

I saw this blog post by {pen n paper flowers} a while back and thought it would be a great way to monogram something for cute gifts or Christmas decorations. Check out her blog. She has a great tutorial!!

Before I makes something for someone I usually like to try it out first. As I noticed in her comments, it didn't work so well for others, and the same thing happened to me. It worked... OK. Not amazing results. I was originally going to paint these Frap bottles but after seeing her post I thought I'd try it out.

I decided to spell out J-O-Y for as a Christmas decoration. It didn't come out very dark so I added polka dots so you can see it!

I like them but I think I'll try painting/frosting spray next time. Maybe I needed to leave it on there longer? I still have etching cream left so I'll probably try it again!

  1. Mallory...i LOVE that you decided to try this out. I think your results turned out great! What did you use to do the polka dots? I think everyone that attempts the tutorial I posted is expecting a really deep etched layer but it's just a faint soft finish. My girls are still using their glasses and they haven't faded a bit. I'm so glad you reached out to me and shared your results!!! Thank you!!!

  2. Thanks Jess! I really loved yours. I even bought a die cut but it was too big! So I just used masking tape.
I used a paint pen for the polka dots and I think it really helps since it is a faint finish like you said. I plan to fill them with something (maybe candy or flowers) when I start decorating soon for Christmas.
